GOOD Magazine Presents: Internet Porn
Leave it to GOOD Magazine to come up with something that wreaks of this much awesomeness. We all know internet porn accounts for quite a bit of the traffic on the web, but never have the bare facts been revealed in such a provocative manner. This video is semi-suitable for work, depending on your job and its atmosphere. If you are Pat Robertson’s receptionist, I would suggest not viewing this video at the office.
If you dig that video, I can tell you from experience that GOOD has a whole lot more of that goodness in their magazine. I would normally suggest going over and buying a subscription, but I have an even better idea – get it for free. I am giving a free subscription to GOOD to the top commenter every month. You can be just like Kellie and have your own year-long subscription to GOOD just by dropping some comments. Don’t forget, comments here also spread some love as well.

Something is wrong. It seems the video does not play! Anyone else?
That’s bizarre, I don’t seem to have that problem.
i watched this video last night and am a bit torn on whether i like it or not.
first of all, the creative aspect of the video rocked. i loved the irony and provocative nature of the facts/stats written on the woman’s exposed skin. those damn graphic designers and art directors are a clever bunch. at the same time, the gratuitous exposure of the human form made me question the video’s intent. it almost seemed like they were advocating internet pornography. the bright lighting, flirty woman, and upbeat soundtrack all contributed to that tone. not to mention the female model’s website was featured at the end of the piece. was GOOD’s stance supposed to be neutral? if they were simply presenting eye-opening (pun intended!) facts with no personal opinion, i don’t think that was achieved.
i am in no way trying to start a dialogue about whether internet porn is good or bad. i am simply trying to understand the intent of the video.
by the way, i went to the woman’s website out of curiosity. it is definitely not work safe!!! :-P
I can definitely see your point of view on their direction of the video. The cynical side of me thinks some of the concept merely could have been to grab attention. I hate to always assume the least savory intents of people, but I would not throw that out of the realm of possibility.
Still, I bet it got a lot of people to watch a video comprised of statistics…
whether or not GOOD has an opinion on internet porn is something that i don’t have a problem with. i just think that as a communication piece, the message a bit confusing.
regardless, i do agree that it must have caught a lot of peoples’ attention! but this brings upu a whole new question. is it okay to use exploitation (any kind) to get a point across or to get attention?
Well look at how GOOD does its magazines. Whenever I open it there is always a statistic or chart to read. I think that they did web porn on the web and not a magazine because they could and it is more creative than in a mag.
If GOOD deiced to report on how much magazine porn people look at they probably would do it in some creative way in their magazine publishing. Since they were covering the statisitcs solely on web porn they decided to use a real web pornographer to expose the statistics and numbers of porn on the net. The medium is important too. They didn’t just publish it, they broadcasted it, on the web. I think that is where part of the creativity lies.
Between ultra sharks and porn this site is really getting interesting. J/K
As always, great points – I think you nailed it.
And yes, this site is getting cooler by the second. Now all we need are some monster trucks and big-hair rock music.
wild guess–
i understand the cleverness of GOOD’s internet porn video. however, playing the devil’s advocate, i am questioning the appropriateness of using ‘shock’ or exploitation tactics to get a point across. secondly, i am confused about the video because although they are presenting facts, it seems there’s an underlyng intent to show internet porn in a favorable light based on some elements used in the video.
I think this may have different subjective viewpoints based on gender. I certain males and females will react differently to visuals such as what the video presents.
I also think the explicit nature of the video may be used to present the content in a format as familiar to the porn format. Nonetheless, it could just as easily have been an attention-grabbing strategy.
to be honest, as a female i have absolutely no problem with consenting, legal internet porn. i was actually trying to critique the work from a pretentious designer’s point of view. :-P
however you made a damn interesting observation, pj. i didn’t even consider the idea of viewpoints based on gender, but i think that overall, that may be a major factor on how people view and interpret the video.
I would honestly like to think that we as humans can rise above our gender-created roles and pre-dispositions, I am just highly skeptical if we can actually truly ever be completely neutral and objective. However, I am meaning that more as an open-ending statement than a judgement of your comments.
hahah, seen this clip a month ago on another blog. It’s brutal but true. Porn guys are 2nd largest online money maker after search engines like Google and Yahoo. One this i wanted to share with you guys is i seriously didn’t know 89% of the porn comes from U.S. My guess was either Germany or Russia.
Yeah, I was pretty shocked by the lopsided numbers as well. It also blew me away at how many countries ban online pornography. Crazy.
Yet again. Another thought provoking post by PJ Onori. Great find dude.
I find the video utterly confusing. The facts on internet porn mixed with the lusty girl seem to be show that there is a lot of porn viewing. and that ultimately the message is overall anti. ” Hey watch out people. Too much porn. k.
For me I’m totally anti. I think its a sick disease infecting the world. ( and this is comming from you’re ex roommate who fried a whole router because of downloading the crap!)
What really confuses me is the girl shamelessly plugs her own site?!!
What kind of message does that send the viewer in the end. “Oh BTW. download more porn!”
WTF??
Oh Yea…and the majority of those countries who banned porn where Muslim countries. Hmmmmmmmm.
when will the u.s. and europe ban woman pornography and treat them with respect?
thank you god for living in saudi arabia!
The US may be bad when it comes to how much porn there is but without meaning offense, I wouldn’t live in Saudi Arabia on a bet. Between the climate and the politics I wouldn’t like it a bit.
Selif’s last blog post..Time For A New Look

I have attempted to write a comment on this blog but every time I submit the form times out the screen or provides an error. Do you think someone could possibly check into the reason this is happening?
